Revealed: The Most ‘Ticket-Happy’ Speed Cameras in the Canary Islands Right Now—One of Them Ranks in Spain’s Top 15

A radar in Lanzarote has made it into the top 15 of the ‘most lucrative’ in the country, with 25,375 fines issued in 2024, according to the European Automobile Association (AEA) on Monday.

Specifically, this is the radar located at kilometre point 20 on the LZ-67 road, which multiplied its fines by more than eight times last year, surpassing 25,000 compared to the 2,999 recorded in 2023.

This road is of high tourist interest, as it has been cited on several occasions as one of the most beautiful on the island due to its surrounding volcanic material, various gradients, and its route leading to the entrance of the Timanfaya National Park.

In contrast, the most prolific radar in the Canary Islands in 2023, located at kilometre point 42 on the GC-1, the southern highway in Gran Canaria, has gone from generating 38,266 fines in 2023 to 11,403 in 2024, reflecting a decrease of 70 percent. This is the radar just before entering the tourist area of Playa del Inglés when travelling from the northern part of the island.

The next radar with the most fines is situated on the Tenerife TF-13 road at its kilometre 0. This is the radar on the Vía de Ronda, which in 2024 has lost some of its impact on drivers’ pockets, going from 14,310 fines in 2023 to 9,491.

The remaining radars with the most fines in the province of Las Palmas are: LZ-67 (PK 16) with 5,631 fines, FV-2 (PK 1) with 2,233, and GC-1 (PK 61) with 2,193. Meanwhile, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, they correspond to TF-1 (PK 59) with 5,943 sanctioning files and LP-3 (PK 20) with 1,724.
