The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, through the Public Services area directed by Guillermo Díaz Guerra, will carry out modifications in the “Door to door” selective collection service for commercial paper and cardboard. These changes will be made from January 19 and will aim to avoid traffic problems and improve the urban landscape of the city.

The first deputy mayor and councilor of the City Council, Guillermo Díaz Guerra, explains that “the design of the current service was causing problems for the fluidity of driving and was damaging the image of the center and the commercial environment.”

In addition, Díaz Guerra assures that this service “has obtained, for years, high recycling rates, promoting a more sustainable business model based on the circular economy” and believes that “this modification will benefit all Santacruceros and of those responsible for business ”. For this reason, he asks for the collaboration of all those involved, “it is absolutely necessary,” he says.

Thus, as of the fixed date, the modification of the service will concentrate the collection at night. The businesses that are in the area between Méndez Núñez, Imeldo Serís, El Pilar, Villalba Herbás and General Gutiérrez streets will be the ones that are affected, having to deposit the waste between 8:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

Those businesses that are located on Castillo and El Pilar streets may deposit the paper and cardboard on the facades of their premises in an orderly manner, folded, stacked and tied, to avoid their dispersion.

The establishments on Imeldo Serís street will also do so once the works taking place in this area have been completed. Until then, they will be able to place the cardboard next to the nearest container island or at the point on Castillo Street that was agreed with the company that provides service.

Finally, the shops on the rest of the streets, within the established area, must place them next to the nearest container island.
