Three New Multisport Facilities in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, La Laguna, and Arona

The Sports Councillor, Yolanda Moliné, highlights that a total of £125,669 has been invested in the project and execution of these three initiatives.

The Cabildo of Tenerife, through its Sports Department, continues to commit to promoting a network of appropriate and sufficient sports facilities to meet the needs of the population across all municipalities, as outlined in the Active Island axis of the strategic plan ‘Tenerife Activa’. This week, three new multi-sport courts have been handed over in the municipalities of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, La Laguna, and Arona, which join the eighteen that are already underway.

The Sports Councillor of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Yolanda Moliné, emphasises that the multi-sport courts serve as “spaces for play, gathering, and versatile sport suitable for people of all ages and that allow for the practice of different sports, such as basketball, volleyball, handball, futsal, or badminton.” Additionally, Moliné adds that “the goal we pursue from the Sports Department of the Cabildo is to increase the number of people engaging in physical activity, contributing to a more active island with more active individuals.”

With 21 such facilities open to the public, the multi-sport courts provide versatile spaces for play, gathering, and sports that are suitable for people of all ages, allowing for the practice of various modalities.

In the project and execution of these three new multi-sport courts, the Cabildo of Tenerife has invested a total of £125,669.62, emphasises Moliné. All of them are type 1 (30X15 metres) and have perimeter fencing.

In Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the court has been installed on Rosalía de Castro Street, in the Ofra Costa Sur District, near the San Antonio sports centre. The one in La Laguna is located at the San Lázaro Sports Centre, between La Jara and Codeso streets. In the municipality of Arona, it is situated in the El Fraile area, on a plot designated for sports facilities on Montaña Grande Street.

Once received by the local councils, the courts remain open for free use under municipal management, to promote outdoor sports practice and the adoption of healthy lifestyle habits among citizens.

On the technical side, two standardised measurements are established for these types of surfaces, varying according to the space allocated in each municipality: type 1 measuring 30X15 meters and type 2 measuring 20X10 meters, as regulated in the island’s sporting facilities plans.
