Protest Scheduled for This Saturday Against the Cuna del Alma Mega Tourism Project Moves Venue

The protest against the tourist project Cuna de Alma, scheduled for this Saturday in the south of Tenerife, has changed location. The gathering, which was to take place next to the house of the Mayor of Adeje, José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga, will now be held at the town hall square and will begin at 18:00 hours. The Salvar el Puertito platform has reported that the Local Police and the Civil Guard have disallowed the protest due to its coincidence with a procession.

According to Salvar el Puertito, the authorities have rejected the proposed location because this Saturday, 12th July, at 19:10 hours, a religious event is scheduled near the mayor’s residence. The resolution, published by the platform, states that “the safety conditions for holding the demonstration are very unfavourable,” as it is an area with only one exit. “In this case, coexistence between the demonstration and the religious activity planned for that same day is impossible,” the text emphasises.

In this vein, the organisation of the protest offered two alternatives to avoid interfering with the procession: to hold it in the morning or to move it to a corner where it would not coincide with the route of the procession. “They denied both options. They wanted no protests on 12th July in the realm of Adeje, but they did not get their way,” they conclude.

On 16th June, another concentration was held outside the Baobab Suites Hotel, owned by businessman Filip Hoste, who is also the promoter of Cuna del Alma. Around 150 people gathered in front of the resort to “highlight the long list of irregularities in the project in front of the hotel guests so that they are aware of the situation and do not stay in businesses that actively contribute to the destruction of the island,” said the platform.

For Salvar el Puertito, “all avenues of citizen action against a property development project that, without Fraga’s fraudulent help, would today be halted have been exhausted.” “The perpetrators of this ecocide cannot remain indifferent any longer, nor can the citizens remain alienated,” they conclude.
