SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Jan 4 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of the Chamber of Commerce of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Santiago Sesé, has valued as “very positive” the employment data during the past year, being even better than the evolution of the economy in the Islands, registering an increase of employment of 50,234 affiliates (6.4%) and a decline in the number of registered unemployed of 66,618 people (-24.7%), in both cases with better relative results than the national average.

In this sense, Santiago Sesé has shown that the “great challenge” for 2022 “will be to consolidate the significant recovery that the labor market has experienced in 2021, since the economic scenario continues to be uncertain due to the effects that this may have. sixth wave of the pandemic and its control throughout this year and due to the high inflation that at least during the first semester will reduce consumption capacity due to the loss of purchasing power that families are experiencing “.

The chamber president also valued the consensus reached between the parties in relation to the labor reform, highlighting that it is “beneficial to try to achieve greater stability through permanent hiring, although it is still too early to evaluate the effects that will have these changes. ” Likewise, Sesé insisted that it should not be overlooked that the job market is diverse, so it is essential that there be flexibility so that companies can make contracts according to their periods of activity.

Finally, he also insisted on the need to facilitate hiring, especially in the face of a situation of incomplete economic recovery. “Of course it is necessary to promote permanent hiring, but it is still necessary to provide incentives to hiring so that employers can adjust this new labor reality to the economic recovery process in which we are still immersed. If we do not want to retrace the The road traveled, aid for hiring and flexibility must be two fundamental pillars to consolidate these good employment data in the Canary Islands, “he said.
