The roscón de Reyes has become a benchmark in the North of the Island. Fran Pallero

Today one of the most sweet and anticipated activities in recent years returns for these Christmas dates in the municipality of La Orotava, such as the distribution of the great roscón de Reyes. This giant sweet, traditional of this time, is expected to measure more than 100 meters again.

Last year it was done virtually, an aspect motivated by the situation of the pandemic, although in this tenth edition it will return to the face-to-face format, although also with some news related to restrictions. One of them is that, given the current health situation, there will be fewer portions of the sweet (more than 1,000) and they will be distributed in boxes.

The distribution act will take place in the central avenue of Emilio Luque, in the area of the La Milagrosa school, between 2:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. or until stocks last, and the maximum collaboration is requested from the people who attend it, complying all protocols and sanitary measures indicated. When removing the individual box, which is to take away not to eat at this point, the participants will give a donation of one euro to benefit the Red Cross. Along with the portions, you can find surprises and obtain a gift donated by different businesses in the municipality of La Orotava.

Participants who benefit from these gifts must go to the indicated store to collect it. It will also be counted during this act of distribution with animation in the streets of this commercial area.

The great sweet will be pastry cream. The Manobuena patisserie is, for another year – there are now 10 -, responsible for manufacturing about 300 liters of the filling cream, using about 1,266 eggs, 158 liters of milk, 12 kilos of cornstarch, 47 kilos of sugar, two kilos of lemons and 325 cinnamon. While the dough will be made for the first time in the facilities of the Jovita bakery. For its preparation, about 150 kilos of flour, 790 eggs, 40 kilos of orange, 20 kilos of margarine, 10 of butter, 10 kilos of sugar, one kilo of vanilla and one of lemon have been used.
