Arico Somos Todos requests the suspension of the wind farm projects in Fasnia and Güímar “due to their environmental, social, and legal impact and for contravening territorial protection and biodiversity regulations”. In the almost 100 pages of objections presented, it calls for a reconsideration of the project due to its impact on protected species and the necessity to comply with the conservation regulations of the Natura 2000 Network.
The experience of Arico
Its spokesperson, José Luis Hervella, explains that “we understand the problem perfectly”, referring to the placement of wind and photovoltaic parks in the municipality. “We’ve been suffering from this type of encroachment in Arico for years with these installations that will condition the future development of our municipality, without receiving any compensation or benefit for enduring these private parks,” he adds.
Some reasons
In the case of El Pilón I and El Pilón II, promoted by Disa Renovables on land in Fasnia and Güímar near the Herques ravine, Arico Somos Todos warns of their negative socioeconomic impact, especially on agriculture, rural tourism, and traditional activities. Therefore, it demands “the implementation of compensation strategies and citizen participation to ensure a fair and equitable energy transition”.
Hervella warns that the construction of the wind farms entails risks of pollution from oils, fuel, and industrial waste (cement, resins, and debris), as well as the alteration of adjacent land due to the need for access and assembly areas. That is why AST requests “a more rigorous environmental impact assessment and risk prevention and mitigation measures during the execution of the project”.
With malice
The violation of the right to citizen participation and access to environmental information is an aspect emphasised by the spokesperson. He argues that the projects suffered from inadequate dissemination, only in official bulletins, which is why the deficiency of the public information process is denounced and its review requested to ensure real and effective citizen participation.
The El Pilón I wind farm, with 15 megawatts and four wind turbines, and El Pilón II, with 8.5 and two wind turbines, will be developed in Fasnia and Güímar. The investment is estimated at 22.3 million euros
