The CC candidate, Alejandro Herrera, was elected as the new mayor of La Guancha following a secret ballot in which he obtained 7 votes. As it was a secret ballot, it is unknown who supported him in addition to the five councillors from his party. It is worth remembering that in the last municipal elections, CC and PP achieved a technical tie with 6 councillors each.

The sole PSOE councillor has been in a pact with the PP from the start of the term.

All indications are, as DIARIO DE AVISOS predicted, that councillor María Auxiliadora Marrero (PP), who was dismissed from her duties by former mayor Antonio Hernández at the end of February, supported the nationalist candidate.

Herrera expressed gratitude to his party colleagues but also to the opposition for the good political harmony over these years and extended a hand to continue working to achieve the well-being of the residents of La Guancha.

The other spokespeople, Lorena Socas (PP) and María Jesús García (PSOE), congratulated the new leader and wished him luck in management, since, as the former said, “management is not as easy as it may appear from the opposition; there are many hurdles along the way, especially bureaucratic ones.”

The new mayor declared that there is a lot of work ahead although some projects will need prioritisation such as “the completion of the municipal swimming pool, the auditorium, and the closure of El Roque Road three years ago.” He also made it clear that he will not hesitate to fight for his party, which governs in higher administrations, to support him in being able to carry them forward.
