The largest sports complex in the history of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has now opened its doors, aiming to become the capital’s “health factory.” This was confirmed by the mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, during the inauguration of the Santa Cruz Sports Centre on Friday, 6th June. The facility, located in Tomé Cano, will be managed by Go fit. After over eight years of planning and more than two years of construction with an investment exceeding 20 million euros by Go fit, the centre will be operational from Monday, 9th June.

### Fees and Timings
To use the new facilities, interested parties will need to pay a fee of €49.95 per month. This includes access to swimming pools, water activities, a spa, a weight-training room, and various activity sessions. Users can also opt for assisted training. The fee also covers two consecutive hours of complimentary parking. The complex is open every day of the year, except 25th December, 1st and 6th January, operating from 6:00 to 23:00 on weekdays, 8:00 to 22:00 on Saturdays, and 8:00 to 18:00 on Sundays and public holidays.

### Facilities
The new Santa Cruz Sports Centre spans 22,000 square metres and includes the Paco Álvarez Municipal Pavilion, which is now three times larger, and the David González Swimming Pool, unveiled in the presence of the acclaimed athlete himself. The complex features two indoor pools, a swimming area and a learning pool; a spa circuit, sauna, and contrast showers; a 1,700-square-metre weight room; four activity rooms; a café; a children’s play area; two tennis courts, two padel courts, and four squash courts; separate male and female changing rooms each with 400 smart lockers; mobile phone lockers; and a relaxation room among other amenities.

### A New Public Space
Located next to the Quico Cabrera Pavilion and the Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium, the new venue offers a 300-space car park and a new public square for community enjoyment. With the capacity for 12,000 people, 6,000 have already signed up. Managed by Go fit under a 40-year administrative concession, the startup has employed around 50 people for operations.

The mayor of Santa Cruz expressed his excitement, noting that this centre realises one of the long-anticipated projects for Santa Cruz. He described it as a “state-of-the-art, modern, and functional” building for all families to enjoy. Meanwhile, Mario Barbosa, CEO of GO fit, emphasised that this is the company’s first centre opened since the COVID pandemic, symbolising recovery and the strength of a community committed to sport as a vehicle for well-being and unity.

### Technology
Mario Barbosa mentioned that Go fit introduces a Seamless technology experience, a digital solution allowing users to interact intuitively with all centre services using a QR system integrated within the GO fit App. This includes everything from accessing the premises to locker use and class reservations. The facility also offers an advanced physical self-assessment area and a digital training assistant that customises experiences to each user’s needs and preferences.

### Revamping the Tomé Cano Sports Block
Construction of the Santa Cruz Sports Centre Go fit, which transformed the entire Tomé Cano sports block, began in February 2023 following a lengthy and complex administrative process. The works involved demolishing the old Paco Álvarez Pavilion, the David González pool, and the so-called Tomé Cano monstrosity, an unfinished building on Eduardo Zamacois Street.
