The manager of a property eviction company in Tenerife has been arrested this week on suspicion of coercion and threats against Civil Guard officers, as reported by the Atlántico Hoy. The accused, Roberto Cristian Pérez, is the leader of the company Ez Property Solutions. Another employee was also arrested for assault. Both have since been released.
Videos circulated on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) show several officers detaining Cristian Pérez, accompanied by his lawyer and a film crew, in a building in Granadilla de Abona, in southern Tenerife. Neighbours in the municipality have reportedly been complaining about the manager’s aggressive tactics and threats to evict vulnerable individuals for months.
In another video posted on his TikTok account, he acknowledges that he was recently sentenced to nine months in prison for a crime of coercion and trespassing: “We must return the property to the occupant; this is the first time this has happened to us. It has been due to the Civil Guard’s poor diligence,” he states in that post from a few weeks ago.
Hours after his arrest, Cristian Pérez filmed another video, seemingly in a former occupied residence, addressing the officer who detained him. “You continue to promote squatting, continue to protect the vermin you find around here. Tell me, what is your personal issue with me? Sewer rat. What do you want? How will you accuse me of a disturbance to authority, an attack…? I didn’t touch you; you put the handcuffs on my face and forced the occupants to report me.”
Ez Property Solutions, established in 2023, is known in Tenerife for its controversial methods of evicting vulnerable individuals from occupied properties and profiting significantly from these actions, similarly to other companies specialising in evictions.
Last year, staff from this company had a confrontation with members of the island’s Tenants’ Syndicate. Months later, Cristian Pérez recorded a video in front of the syndicate’s premises stating, “And this little piece you have painted here, it needs a coat of paint and I…,” at which point the video ends. Shortly thereafter, a fire destroyed the mentioned premises.
