Demands for Unity Against Eviction Firms in the Canary Islands
Call for Solidarity
The anti-eviction platform Derecho al Techo has called for “unity and firmness” from both society and institutions in the Canary Islands in response to eviction firms operating in the region. These companies employ “coercive methods, threats, and intimidation against individuals and communities.”
Recent Events
Following the recent arrest and subsequent release of the leader of a company involved in this activity in Granadilla, Derecho al Techo asserts that “the violence perpetrated by eviction firms cannot be confronted solely by neighbourhood or housing collectives. It requires a united and firm response from all of the Canary Islands.”
A Unified Front
This call to action includes involvement from “political parties, trade unions, local councils, island councils, and the Government of the Canary Islands. There is no place for the bullies from eviction companies in the Canary Islands,” states Derecho al Techo, highlighting that two members of one of these organisations are currently imprisoned for the violent death of a man in Tenerife.
