Puerto de la Cruz is gearing up for one of its most anticipated celebrations with a new edition of the Summer Carnival, taking place from 19 to 21 September. This year, the tourist city is bringing forward the International Winter Carnival with a proposal full of colour, joy, flavour, and freedom, under the slogan: Long Live Mexico!

The Costa Martiánez Tourist Complex and Playa Jardín will be the prime venues for a programme that combines galas, festivals, concerts, and parades, firmly reinforcing this Carnival as a key event in the festive and touristic calendar of Canary Islands.

For three days, Puerto de la Cruz will be filled with music, culture, and diversity, featuring a vibrant programme that includes orchestras, DJs, drag artists, batucadas, comparsas, and shows for all audiences.

Events

The epicentre of the carnival will be the Costa Martiánez Tourist Complex, which will host the Transgressive Gala on Friday, directed by local singer, choreographer, and artistic director Wycho Torres, featuring renowned drag artists from the archipelago.

Saturday will kick off with the Diverse Festival, hosted by the well-known drag artist Marcela Kaufmann and Iván Padrón, followed by The Great Carnival Pachanga, a party bringing together performers Ni un pelo de Tonto, Boys Machine, and DJ Ubay Hernández on stage.

On Sunday 21, the Summer Carnival will conclude with a mass gathering at Playa Jardín, starting at 12:00 with the Grand Parranda and Coso, featuring groups from the Puerto de la Cruz Carnival, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and the island of La Palma, along with comparsas and choreographic groups from the municipality.

The music will continue until 20:00 with performances from DJs Luis de León, Alex Navarro, Laurentini, Dassierl, guitarist Gabo Siverio, and the Orquesta Swing Latino, bringing a vibrant end to a celebration that marks summer’s conclusion with all the joy of the carnival.

Identity as a Tourist Destination

“Puerto de la Cruz once again demonstrates that it is a city that is open, lively, and committed to its traditions, while also embracing the values of freedom, diversity, and inclusion,” stated the city’s mayor, Leopoldo Afonso, who highlighted that this Summer Carnival “is a celebration that projects our identity as a tourist destination and as a society.”

In addition, the councillor for Festivals, Luis Javier González, stated that “the Summer Carnival is an established event, showcasing the best local and Canary talent, and emphasising the LGTBI+ community as an essential part of the carnival spirit of our municipality.” He added that “it is a celebration to enjoy without labels, with respect and all the joy that deserves the end of summer.”

The Town Hall, through its Festivals area, has designed a programme that reinforces the tourist projection of the municipality, offering both residents and visitors the opportunity to experience a festive atmosphere in a privileged setting. Puerto de la Cruz invites all citizens and visitors to join the Summer Carnival 2025: an explosion of music, colour, and pride to conclude the summer with the best of smiles, reminding that all performances are free until capacity is reached.
