Estefanía Díaz highlights that the Commerce programme exceeded initial expectations, assisting 35 local businesses with tailored technical support that received high praise from merchants.
The La Laguna Town Hall, through its Commerce Department, has successfully completed the ‘Diagnosis and Improvement Project for Local Commerce in the Open Commercial Area of Tejina’. This free initiative enabled 35 establishments to obtain a technical analysis of their businesses, alongside more than 280 individual action proposals. Remarkably, 76% of these improvements have already been implemented or are in the process of being applied, confirming the effectiveness of this hands-on and practical working methodology.
Commerce Councillor Estefanía Díaz remarked, “This programme has demonstrated that the small shops in our neighbourhoods want and can improve. When tailored tools are provided to meet their realities, results come swiftly.”
Project Overview
The project ran from April to July 2025 and included three visits to each business. The first visit involved an initial diagnosis, the second provided a tailored action plan, and finally, there was a follow-up assessment. These stages addressed four key areas: storefront design, interior layout, sales techniques, and digital marketing. The most noticeable improvements included enhanced external signage, optimised internal distribution, and the implementation of visual and digital communication strategies.
Feedback from Merchants
According to surveys conducted, 73.5% of merchants rated the service as “Very good”, and 94.1% rated it between “Very good” and “Good”. Additionally, 91% stated that the project helped them understand their business better and implement specific changes.
Estefanía Díaz explained, “We are very satisfied, not only because we have exceeded initial goals, but also because we have received unanimous support from the sector. This encourages us to expand this model to other commercial areas in the municipality.”
Future Plans
The final report also outlines the next steps for further strengthening local commerce in La Laguna. Recommendations include deepening digitalisation efforts, promoting collective dynamisation actions, and expanding the programme to more neighbourhoods and commercial zones.
“This is the path to making our local commerce stronger, more competitive, and visible. When a business improves, the entire surrounding community benefits and revitalisation occurs,” reiterated Díaz.
Participating merchants expressed their interest in continuing such initiatives, with a particular demand for training in digital transformation and implementing the proposals received. The Commerce Department is already working on new support lines that will continue this pilot experience and lay the groundwork for future municipal policies to boost local commerce.
Looking ahead to 2026, the Commerce Department plans to replicate this experience in other commercial areas of the municipality, aiming to extend the benefits of personalised diagnosis to a greater number of establishments and consolidate a support model that reinforces the competitiveness and visibility of local commerce throughout La Laguna.
