Warm Weather to Provide a Brief Respite for the Canary Islands
Temperature Trends This Weekend
The recent heat affecting the Canary Islands is set to ease slightly. According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), temperatures will gradually decline this Saturday, although high temperatures of up to 37 degrees Celsius will still be recorded in various areas, alongside dust clouds.
In the peaks of Gran Canaria, as well as in the eastern, southern, and western regions of the island, along with Tenerife, temperatures could reach as high as 36 degrees, with isolated instances of 37 degrees. Dust clouds will reduce visibility to around 3,000 metres; however, it is anticipated that conditions will improve during the latter half of the day.
Forecast for Santa Cruz and Las Palmas
The maximum temperature in Santa Cruz de Tenerife is expected to hit 33 degrees, while Las Palmas de Gran Canaria may see a high of 30 degrees, with minimums of 25 and 24 degrees respectively. Moderate north-easterly winds are anticipated, with the possibility of strong gusts in various locations across the archipelago.
Looking Ahead: A Warm and Dry Autumn
David Suárez, the territorial delegate of Aemet in the Canary Islands, stated in an interview with La Radio Canaria that a warm and dry autumn is expected following a quarter marked by extremely high temperatures and anomalies of up to 6.2 degrees above the average. This reinforces the trend towards warmer conditions than usual in the archipelago.
