Boreal: A Tourist Attraction for the Low Island
The Boreal Festival has established itself as a major cultural and tourist driver in Tenerife. With a multidisciplinary format that includes music, urban art, gastronomy, eco-markets, and workshops, this eco-festival attracts thousands of visitors from other islands in the archipelago each year. Its location—set within a rural and heritage environment designated as a Site of Cultural Interest—provides islanders with an authentic and diverse experience that complements the usual sun and beach offerings, promoting internal mobility and valuing northern Tenerife.
This rich offering is embedded in a festival model where sustainability, accessibility, and gender equality are fundamental pillars, earning it accolades such as the Fest Award for diversity and equality. Thus, it positions itself not only as a cultural destination but as a pioneering and responsible reference event.
The Boreal Festival attracts not only Canarian residents and national tourists but also projects an international image as an example of cultural and sustainable tourism. Its focus on environmental awareness, circular economy, and decentralisation of culture deserves its reputation as a “boutique festival” and a model reference, turning Los Silos into a hub for active and intercultural tourism. Valued as an enriching, conscious, and welcoming experience, Boreal enhances Tenerife’s appeal as a destination beyond sun and sea, capturing the attention of travellers interested in a comprehensive and sustainable offering.
The Boreal Festival is organised by Folelé Producciones, with the collaboration of the Los Silos Town Council and sponsorship from the Government of the Canary Islands through Promotur Turismo Canarias. It is a project supported by the Department of Culture and the Canarian Institute of Cultural Development (ICDC), as well as the Ministry of Ecological Transition of the Canary Government, the Insular Council of Tenerife through the Department of Culture, and the Ministry of Culture of the Spanish Government. Additional support comes from Juventudcanaria.com via the IDEO Foundation, alongside the Social Action department of the Tenerife Council through Sinpromi. Other organisations, entities, and companies like Fundación Sgae, Casa África, CoordinaCanarias, and Fundación ‘la Caixa’ through CaixaBank are also collaborators.
