Weather Warning for the Canary Islands Amid Heatwave

Canaries Brace for a Sandy, Sweltering Thursday with Temperatures Reaching 37°C

The Canary Islands will experience a day characterised by haze and high temperatures this Thursday, with forecasts indicating temperatures ranging from 24°C to 37°C, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

High Temperatures

In islands such as Gran Canaria, maximum temperatures could reach 36°C in inland areas, with local conditions possibly pushing the temperature to 37°C. In Tenerife, La Gomera, La Palma, and El Hierro, maximums are expected to hit 34°C.

Fire Risk Alert

The alert for the risk of forest fires remains active in the western islands and Gran Canaria at elevations above 400 metres. Meanwhile, a pre-alert for extreme temperatures and haze continues to be in effect across the Canary Islands. The Government of the Canary Islands, through the Directorate General for Emergencies, initiated this alert from 8:00 AM on Tuesday, 16th September, as part of the Special Civil Protection Plan and Emergency Response for Forest Fires (INFOCA).

Conclusion of Wind Pre-alert

On Wednesday, the Government of the Canary Islands announced the conclusion of the pre-alert for wind across the islands, as well as the pre-alert for coastal phenomena affecting the Archipelago.
