September: The Perfect Month for Enjoying the Canary Islands

The Ideal Canary Island Beach for September: Pristine, Quiet, and Perfect for Swimming

September is one of the favourite months for those looking to enjoy the Canary Islands without the summer hustle. With enviable weather, ideal sea temperatures, and lower prices compared to peak season, the archipelago becomes a dream destination. If there’s one place to lay down a towel, a beach stands out for its unique atmosphere and blend of relaxation and fun.

Beaches in the Canary Islands

Across the Canary Islands, there are nearly 677 beaches, ranging from volcanic coves to expansive golden sands. Each island has its own character: Tenerife leads with 168, followed by Gran Canaria with 134 and Lanzarote with 122. Fuerteventura is a paradise of fine sand with 67 beaches, while La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro offer more pristine and tranquil corners.

September: The Ideal Month

Many consider autumn in the Canary Islands to be the best time to visit. The pleasant temperatures, still-warm sea, and low tourist numbers create the perfect conditions for a getaway. It’s a time when the heat of summer begins to ease, and the beaches regain their calm.

Additionally, accommodation and flight prices are typically more competitive than in July and August, making September the ideal month for those seeking quality without overspending. Sunny days are complemented by mild evenings, perfect for strolls along the promenades.

Playa del Inglés: A Classic

When it comes to a beach that meets all requirements, Playa del Inglés in Gran Canaria takes centre stage. This sandy stretch spans nearly three kilometres of golden sand and calm waters, framed by the spectacular Maspalomas Dunes Nature Reserve. Its location in the south of the island ensures sun almost every day of the year.

Along its coast, there are family-friendly areas, spaces for playing sports like beach volleyball and football, as well as quieter spots for those looking to unwind.

This area in the south of Gran Canaria is the most famous and appreciated by tourists. The expansive beach stretches from a developed area, complete with hotels and shopping facilities, to the more natural and untouched Maspalomas Dunes, a spectacular nature reserve.

Facilities and Amenities

The beach offers sunbed and umbrella rentals, showers, restrooms, beach bars, and a wide commercial avenue with restaurants, supermarkets, and shops. For those driving, there are nearby parking facilities, and it is also accessible via public transport.

As one approaches the Punta de Maspalomas, the beach becomes wilder. Here, surf spots and naturist areas create a diverse and cosmopolitan environment. This contrast allows every visitor to find their ideal space, whether for family enjoyment, water sports, or simply relaxing in the sun.

A Complete Experience

With its length of 2.7 kilometres, Playa del Inglés is perfect for long seaside walks. Its combination of comfort, safety, and natural landscape makes it a favourite option for tourists and locals alike in September. Those who choose it not only enjoy the sea and sand but also a range of leisure activities, including dining, nightlife, and outdoor pursuits. It’s the perfect place for those seeking more than just a day at the beach.
