Canary Islands Airports See Passenger Growth in August
The airports in the Canary Islands recorded over 4.7 million passengers in August, consisting of 2.1 million domestic flights (+6.1%) and 2.5 million international flights (+4.6%). This reflects an annual growth of 5.2%, as reported by Aena on Friday.
Flight Movement and Cargo
In addition to the 4,730,200 passengers counted in the eighth month of the year, there were 40,714 aircraft movements, an increase of 2.8%. Furthermore, 2,618 tonnes of cargo were transported, marking a 3.7% rise compared to August of the previous year.
Ranking of Canary Islands Airports
Gran Canaria Airport had the highest number of passengers, totalling 1,294,008, which represents a 6.2% increase compared to August 2024. Following closely was Tenerife South Airport, with 1,110,732 passengers, a rise of 1.1%. Other notable airports included César Manrique-Lanzarote with 825,901 (+3.6%), Tenerife North Ciudad de La Laguna with 683,589 (+9.7%), Fuerteventura with 628,755 (+10%), La Palma with 138,846 (+0.5%), El Hierro with 34,086 (-4.1%), and La Gomera with 14,283 passengers (+9.2%).
Year-to-Date Figures
Thus far this year, the Canary Islands airports have recorded a total of 36,401,682 passengers, representing a 5% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Of the 36,185,568 commercial passengers, 14,993,983 travelled on domestic flights, up by 5.3%, while 21,191,585 used international flights, an increase of 5% relative to the accumulated figures from the previous year.
From January to August 2025, there were 321,755 aircraft movements, an increase of 4.7% compared to last year, while 21,283 tonnes of cargo were transported, which is a 1.8% decrease compared to 2024.
