A large branch has fallen this afternoon in Plaza del Príncipe, in the heart of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, damaging a parked vehicle and part of the perimeter wall in the area.
The city council, through the Public Services department, promptly activated municipal services and proceeded to cordon off the area while the branch removal and cleaning operations were undertaken by staff from Parks and Gardens.
As a precaution, the area will remain closed to pedestrian traffic. Additionally, a technical report has been commissioned to ascertain the causes of the fall and assess the resulting damages.
The Mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, has indicated that the area was secured promptly and that the technical report will be awaited to determine the circumstances of the incident.
Meanwhile, the Councillor for Public Services, Carlos Tarife, has explained that, in addition to the branch removal, the extent of the damage in the plaza and to the affected property is being assessed to establish necessary measures.
The council confirmed that it will continue to monitor the condition of the trees in Plaza del Príncipe and other areas of the city.
