The PP councillor in the Güímar Town Hall, Carmen Luisa Castro, has become the mayor of the municipality this Monday after the motion of no confidence was successful, receiving votes in favour from the nine PP councillors, two defectors from the PSOE, and one from Nueva Canarias.
The motion of no confidence, which has one more vote than necessary to achieve the majority of 21 councillors, ousts Gustavo Pérez, from Coalición Canaria, who had been governing in a coalition with the five PSOE councillors and one from Unidas Se Puede.
This is Castro’s third term as mayor, having first assumed the position following a motion of no confidence in 2013 and winning the elections in the 2015 to 2019 term.
