Officers from the National Police have arrested a 16-year-old boy as the suspected perpetrator of a thwarted sexual assault that occurred on 31st July in a hotel in the municipality of Arona.
According to the security force in a statement, the incident occurred at the door of one of the hotel rooms, where the victim, a 22-year-old woman, was approached by an individual who managed to slip in behind her as she accessed her accommodation.
The victim managed to resist, screamed, and prevented the attacker from closing the door, which ultimately caused him to desist and flee the scene.
Arrest
The attack occurred during peak hours and on a busy floor of the hotel. Security cameras allowed the agents to reconstruct the sequence of events and track the suspect until he was located and arrested by the pool of a nearby hotel, where he was staying on holiday. Specifically, he was a 16-year-old boy who was on holiday with his family.
Given the seriousness of the events, his admission to a specialised centre for young offenders was ordered, where he will remain in custody, with no possibility of leaving the island, and at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
