The magistrate of the Investigation Court No. 2 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife has ordered the remand in custody, communicated and without bail of the three detainees accused of kidnapping, torturing, and murdering the young man Alberto González between last Monday and Wednesday in Tenerife.
Those sent to Tenerife II prison are the kickboxing fighter Moisés Baute, the nightclub doorman Jonathan Martín, and Aarón Vargas, president of the Unión Deportiva Añaza, all members of a violent gang from Añaza with an extensive history.
According to a confirmation made this Saturday by the Superior Court of Justice of Canarias (TSJC), these three young men are under investigation for the crimes of homicide or murder (depending on the outcome of the investigation), aggravated assault, and illegal detention and against moral integrity. The detainees exercised their right not to testify.
In the boot of the Toyota vehicle in which they headed to the police station they carried the bruised body of Alberto González, whom they admitted to having killed with blows. At that moment they were detained.
The third arrest
On Friday, the National Police arrested Aarón Vargas, a friend of Moisés Baute and Jonathan Martín who would serve as the leader of this Añaza gang. The investigation has determined that there are serious indications that these three young men, well-known to the security forces for their extensive police record, kidnapped Alberto González, a 34-year-old from El Cardonal, along with a friend of his, known as León.
Moreover, they are accused of having supposedly beaten and even tortured them, and of having allegedly murdered Alberto González, whose body was handed over by Moisés Baute and Jonathan Martín when they presented themselves at the Santa Cruz de Tenerife National Police station. The young man known as León was seriously injured and is recovering in a Tenerife hospital.
A key statement
The statement from the victim who survived the beatings has been crucial to the investigation. Following these statements, a large operation by the National Police, consisting of vans, patrols, and undercover vehicles, was deployed this Friday to two locations on the Island related to the alleged kidnapping and subsequent brutal assault on Alberto González and ‘León’.
These two locations are a property located in Lomo de Mena, in the municipality of Güímar, in the south of Tenerife, and a house on Salto del Ángel street, in the neighbourhood of Santa María del Mar in the Tenerife capital. As a result of the investigations, the Police arrested Aarón Vargas on Friday.
The partner of the now deceased had reported on Monday afternoon that Alberto González was missing. She was unable to contact him, and people close to him also did not know his whereabouts. On Wednesday morning, he was found dead in the boot of the vehicle driven by Moisés Baute and Jonathan Martín.
