Seven affected, one in critical condition, after flat fire in La Laguna

A woman has been hospitalised in a critical condition, and six other individuals have been affected to varying degrees after a fire broke out in a residence located in a building in the El Rocío area of the municipality of La Laguna, Tenerife.

According to the Emergency Coordination Centre (Cecoes) 1-1-2, emergency services were dispatched to the scene on Friday after receiving numerous calls alerting them to a fire in a residence on Rector Antonio Bethencourt Street.

Firefighters rescued two women from inside the affected dwelling and, after extinguishing the flames, proceeded to ventilate the property.

Personnel from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), which sent four ambulances to the scene, attended to seven individuals, of which six were evacuated to different hospitals.

Among those affected is a woman with severe smoke inhalation and burns, who was transferred in critical condition to the University Hospital of the Canary Islands.

Also transferred to the same hospital were two other women and a man, all with moderate smoke inhalation.

Additionally, a 15-year-old boy and a 56-year-old woman, both with moderate smoke inhalation, were taken to the University Hospital Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria.

Furthermore, SUC medical staff attended to a woman at the scene who was experiencing health issues.

Meanwhile, the Local Police secured the area and, together with the firefighters, evacuated the residents of the building affected by the fire.

The National Police assisted with the other emergency resources.
