Provisional custody without bail for a suspect in a Tenerife hotel fire that left three injured

The Guardia Civil has recently arrested a 26-year-old man as the alleged perpetrator of a serious fire that occurred in the early hours of 14 July at the premises of an abandoned hotel in the locality of Callao Salvaje (Adeje), in the south of Tenerife. The competent Court of Instruction in Arona has already ordered his provisional detention without bail.

As a result of the fire, three people who were sleeping inside were injured, two of them seriously, requiring their admission to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the University Hospital Ntra. Sra. de La Candelaria due to second-degree burns and acute respiratory failure, according to the Guardia Civil.

After the fire was extinguished by the Fire Brigade, specialists from the Guardia Civil’s Criminalistics Laboratory conducted the necessary technical inspection and determined that the fire had been intentional. The officers found several separate points of origin with no connection between them, indicating a “clear intention” behind the actions.

Through various efforts made during the investigation carried out by the Judicial Police agents of the Guardia Civil, enough evidence and clues were gathered to fully identify the alleged perpetrator, a man residing in the aforementioned hotel complex.

Once the accused was located, a corresponding search operation was established, thanks to which he has recently been arrested and placed at the disposal of the competent Court of Instruction in Arona, which has ordered his unconditional provisional detention without bail.

The investigation has been conducted by the Territorial Team of Judicial Police of Playa de las Américas, part of the Organic Unit of Judicial Police of the Guardia Civil of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
