Final Phase of Restoration of the Grand Hotel Taoro

The Gran Hotel Taoro, one of the most iconic historic buildings in Puerto de la Cruz and a pioneer of luxury tourism in Spain, is entering the final stage of its ambitious full-scale restoration. With its reopening scheduled for 15 September, this marks the final stretch of a meticulous restoration process that aims to return the building to the splendour that once made it legendary.

The design and direction of the project have been entrusted to Virgilio Gutiérrez and Eustaquio Martínez, two of the Canary Islands’ most renowned architects, known for their dedication to preserving the region’s architectural heritage. Both have received numerous awards for their work on culturally significant projects, particularly in Tenerife. Their involvement has been key in this technically and historically complex undertaking, ensuring the preservation of the hotel’s most important original features, while maintaining its neoclassical identity and restoring its former grandeur. The renovation strikes a careful balance between historical respect and modern functionality, creating a seamless blend of heritage and the expectations of a contemporary luxury hotel.

The construction work has been carried out by Dragados, one of the most prestigious construction companies both nationally and internationally. Their technical expertise has been crucial in tackling the structural and engineering challenges of a restoration of this scale. The interior design and furnishings have been led by Dishot Insular, a Tenerife-based studio specialising in high-end hotels. They have crafted a new interior identity that combines elegance and practicality with deep respect for the building’s history.

Owned by the Cabildo of Tenerife, the Gran Hotel Taoro will be managed by Tropical Turística Canaria, the official concession holder, under its brand MyWay Hotels & Resorts. Tropical Turística Canaria’s significant investment in this project reflects its strong commitment to preserving and revitalising the island’s historical heritage, while creating unique and exclusive spaces where tradition meets innovation to deliver truly memorable experiences.

With this comprehensive transformation, the Gran Hotel Taoro is set to reclaim its status as a landmark of luxury hospitality on both a national and international scale, projecting its legacy into the future and playing a key role in the cultural, social, and economic development of northern Tenerife.
