The Tenerife Cabildo and the Santa Cruz Ayuntamiento are progressing on a project to improve rural paths and rehabilitate agricultural areas in the centre of Taborno, located in the Anaga Rural Park. This initiative will benefit the mobility of residents and visitors, as well as revitalise local agricultural activity, strengthening the natural and cultural heritage of the area.
The Sasnoya and Monte de La Hoya paths are the main access routes in Taborno, and their condition affects accessibility in this rural enclave. To improve mobility, the Cabildo has planned to widen and upgrade the carriageway of these routes. The project already has funding for the Sasnoya Path, which is in the contracting phase, while improvements on Monte de La Hoya will take place in 2026.
The island councillor for Natural Resources, Blanca Pérez, emphasises that these actions are vital for ensuring safe passage for residents, especially for the elderly and families living in the village.
In addition to improvements to the paths, there are plans to recover a trail that surrounds the old school in Taborno, which will facilitate access to abandoned gardens. These plots are part of the traditional agricultural landscape of Anaga Rural Park, and their rehabilitation will help preserve this cultural heritage and contribute to the local economy.

According to Pérez, “facilitating access to these gardens will help to keep the characteristic landscape of Anaga alive and strengthen the rural economy of the Anaga Massif”.
The role of residents in improving the village
The San José de Taborno Residents’ Association, led by Toño Hernández, has expressed its satisfaction with the progress made following a meeting with representatives from the Cabildo and the Ayuntamiento. Hernández highlighted the importance of the works to improve mobility and recover the crops, as well as other requests such as the clearance of invasive species, improvements to railings, and the repair of the children’s playground and the section known as El Montecillo.
A commitment to sustainability and rural development
These initiatives are part of the strategy of Anaga Rural Park to protect its environmental and cultural value, promoting sustainable rural development that benefits both its inhabitants and the conservation of the natural environment.
