The Church of the Most Holy Redeemer, in the Las Chumberas district, continues to consolidate its international prestige months after being recognised in Japan with one of the most prestigious awards in the field of architectural design.
The project, designed by the Canary architect Fernando Menis, was awarded the ADF Design Excellence Award 2025 in March, granted by the Aoyama Design Forum.
The church, with a structure inspired by the volcanic geology of the Canaries, has attracted attention not only for its radical aesthetics but also for the social impact of its construction.
Moreover, it is financed through donations from local residents, parishioners, and small businesses in the area.

Exposed concrete, volcanic stone, and a carefully considered use of natural light create a space that combines spirituality, sustainability, and contemporary art.
This international recognition is not the only accolade the church has received in recent years. The project has already been awarded the Frate Sole Prize for Sacred Architecture 2024 and the International Religious Architecture Award 2022, granted by the American Institute of Architects.
Additionally, it is part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA), further reinforcing its position as a global reference in the design of sacred spaces.
Fernando Menis, recipient of the Taburiente Prize from DIARIO DE AVISOS in 2016, has emphasised the symbolic value of this project, as it is a work “raised with faith, collective effort, and vision for the future.”
The Church of the Most Holy Redeemer has not only transformed the urban landscape of Las Chumberas but has also brought the name of Tenerife to the highest forums of global architectural design.
