Twelve abandoned puppies in Arico in just one week

It has been a sad week for animal lovers in Arico. Up to 12 puppies from three different litters have been abandoned in the southern municipality of Tenerife in just a few days.

This is evident from the posts of the shelter 4A Asociación Amigos Animales Arico, which reminds us that this abandonment is happening in the middle of a heatwave in the Canaries. The posts from the animal welfare organisation have sparked outrage among their followers, who encourage anyone who knows the responsible parties to dare to report them.

But there is also a wave of affection and solidarity: messages thanking the work of the organisation and others inquiring about the possibility of fostering some of these animals.

In a cardboard box

The first abandonment occurred on Monday, 14th July in the town of El Río, when three puppies were found, two males and one female, inside a cardboard box. “Throwing puppies out in such heat…”, questions 4A before welcoming “the babies”.

Just two days later in the same municipality, four more puppies from another litter and a different breed were found. In this case, the animal welfare organisation reports that they are four males of approximately a month and a half old. “They will be large in size,” they clarify in case anyone considers adopting one of them.

And the next day, when temperatures reached 37 degrees in Arico, five more puppies were found. “More shameless people,” criticises 4A, which asks, “What is wrong with people?”. At least the collective can breathe easy knowing that the person who found them has a family ready to take care of them.
