The youth organisation of Coalición Canaria in the municipality is renewing its structure with a team committed to identity, active participation, and the future of the youth of La Laguna
The nationalist youth of La Laguna have elected their new Executive Committee of Youth, which will be led by the local councillor, Moisés Afonso León. He takes on the General Secretariat with the aim of strengthening youth involvement in the political and social life of the municipality, and with a firm commitment to advance in key areas such as education, housing, innovation, equality, and culture, from a participatory, Canarian, and transformative perspective. Mariela Canino Rodríguez is positioned as the number two in this project, taking on the role of Deputy General Secretary and Communication; while María del Carmen Cabrera Álvarez will lead the Organisation Secretariat.
Afonso León emphasised that this new stage represents “an opportunity to be a more active, more present, and useful organisation for the youth of La Laguna. We want to listen, learn, propose, and build from proximity, with clear ideas and with our feet on this land.” He added that “it is time to take the step, to not settle, to proudly defend who we are, but also to innovate, to educate ourselves, and to participate to transform our reality.”
The local General Secretary of Coalición Canaria in La Laguna, Fran Hernández, congratulated the new General Secretary of the Nationalist Youth of La Laguna and his new team, stating that “organised youth is essential to advance towards a fairer, more participative, and more cohesive society”; highlighting that La Laguna has the local youth committee with the highest number of members, “without a doubt, we are one of the engines of the nationalist youth of Coalición Canaria and they are a guarantee of our present and future,” he added, congratulating the work and involvement of the outgoing General Secretary, Sinuhé Marrero.
Hernández pointed out that “spaces like this demonstrate that the youth of La Laguna are eager, committed, and capable of influencing social transformation processes.” “I am pleased to see how our youth are not on the sidelines, but are present, organising, and contributing,” he said.
Afonso León will be accompanied in this stage by a renewed and committed team. The strategic work areas will be led by Alba
Morales Ghuneim, responsible for Education and Training; José Luis Hormiga, at the forefront of Universities, Student Movements, and Equality; Carlos Adrián García Negrín, in the area of Primary Sector and Rural Environment; Amalia Martín González, in Canarian Identity and Culture; Nauzet Rodríguez Fernández, as Secretary of Innovation and Technology; Iker Marcos Cabrera, in Fiestas and Traditions; Carlos Alonso, as Secretary of Sports and Environment; and Daniel Alejandro Rodríguez Méndez, at the helm of Citizen Participation.
