The strike committee of Metropolitano de Tenerife, comprised of the Federation of Services to Citizenship of Comisiones Obreras Canarias (FSC–CCOO) and UGT, has announced the holding of two new meetings to continue the negotiation process aimed at finding a resolution to the labour conflict within the company.
The first meeting of the strike committee will take place on Wednesday, 23rd July, with the involvement of the Unión Sindical Obrera (USO), and the second is scheduled for Thursday, 31st July, which will be held with the company management, reports Comisiones Obreras in a statement.
The note adds that these calls are made in a context of seeking solutions to the conflict affecting the staff of Metropolitano de Tenerife since February 2024. The origin of the conflict lies in the repeated failure to comply with prior agreements by the company, including the collective agreement for 2019-2022, the transitional agreement of 2021, and the agreement to end the strike of 2023.
The union, which it explains is the majority in the strike committee, insists that the goal of this new phase of the process is to establish “effective and lasting social peace” through complete adherence to previously signed commitments and the development of a new labour framework that includes, among other points, professional classification, working hours, job stability, internal promotion, disciplinary regulations, and occupational health.
The note adds that the unions reiterate their willingness to engage in dialogue and their commitment to a negotiated solution, but warn that they will not accept proposals that entail setbacks in the labour rights acquired after more than a year and a half of conflict.
