The Council removes over 4,100 kilos of phytosanitary products in southern Tenerife

The Councillor for the Primary Sector, Valentín González, explains that “this action is part of the campaign we have initiated from the Cabildo to assist farmers in disposing of these products, and it will continue in the north and in the metropolitan area of the island.”

The Cabildo of Tenerife has removed a total of 4,187 kilos of plant protection products in the southern area of the island, as part of a campaign aimed at “helping farmers remove these products, which can pose a risk to the environment.”

Councillor Valentín González explains that “we have started this campaign in the south, where four collection points have been opened over four weeks, in Arico, Guía de Isora, Granadilla, and Vilaflor.”

A second operation in the northern area is scheduled to commence in October of this year, followed by a third in the metropolitan area in March 2026.

Valentín González has rated the results of this first phase of the campaign as “very positive,” stating that “the waste from plant protection products poses a potential risk to both human health and the environment.”

The Councillor emphasises that “the aim of the Cabildo is to support farmers so that these products are handled by an authorised manager, safely and at no cost.”

The removal of these products promotes a healthier working environment for agricultural workers and reduces the risks of accidental spills that could endanger wildlife.”
