Around 18,000 people gather in La Laguna to enjoy the San Benito Abad Pilgrimage 2025.

This pilgrimage featured the participation of 80 carts, five decorated boats, and 35 folklore groups.

The Romería of San Benito Abad 2025 brought together around 18,000 people this Sunday, 13th July, in the streets of La Laguna, including local residents taking part in the pilgrimage and visitors from various corners of the Canary Islands who came to the city to enjoy this event, which included a special twinning with the island of La Gomera.

A total of 35 folklore groups, 15 handcarts, five boats, and 80 registered carts added colour, vibrancy, tradition, music, and flavours to this highly anticipated Romería, which is the only one classified as regional in the entire archipelago. Leading the procession was the image of San Benito Abad, which made its way through the area named after him and the historic centre of the city, accompanied for the first time by San Roque, the co-patron of La Laguna.

The mayor of the municipality, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, highlighted “the great atmosphere we experienced once again in La Laguna, with this event topping off a historic weekend for these festivities, during which we successfully launched celebrations such as the Children’s Magos Dance and enjoyed other events that are already traditional for this time of year, such as the Festival 8 Islas and the Magos Dance last Friday.”

The designated route for the Regional Romería of San Benito Abad commenced around 11:00 from the church of San Benito, proceeding along Marqués de Celada Street, Doctor Olivera Square, Herradores Street, Tabares de Cala Street, La Carrera Street, Adelantado Street, and Marqués de Celada Street again, before returning to the starting point.

The day passed without any notable incidents, as confirmed by the security arrangements in place, which included the National Police, Tenerife Fire Consortium, Civil Protection, Local Police of La Laguna, Civil Guard, and the Canarian Police, among other teams.

The Councillor for Festivals in La Laguna, Dailos González, expressed gratitude for “the great reception this programme for San Benito is receiving, with several events still to come in the following days,” and thanked all the staff in his department for their tremendous work and commitment during this time.

Best regards.
