The Aemet forecasts the weather in the Canaries this Friday: particular focus on two phenomena

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) forecasts that this Friday, 11th July, temperatures will reach or exceed 30 degrees in southern-facing mid-altitude areas of the Canary Islands, except for Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.

Light calima at altitude will gradually subside throughout the day, and the trade winds will blow with strong intervals in various areas, especially in the afternoon.

At sea, a northeast wind of force 4 or 5 is expected, reaching force 6 offshore in the northwest and southeast of the archipelago, where there will be rough or very rough seas. In other areas, wind strength will be 3 or 4, except for 2 or 3 near the coast, with slight waves or moderate waves. In the west, variable breezes are anticipated, with slight waves or ripples.

Forecast by island

In Tenerife, the sky will remain mostly clear, with some cloud cover in the northern lowlands. Light calima is expected at altitude, gradually dissipating. Temperatures will remain stable, with slight increases in minimums in mid-altitude areas facing east and west. In Santa Cruz de Tenerife, values between 21 and 28 degrees are expected, although in the mid-altitudes, readings may reach or exceed 30 °C. The trade wind will blow with strong intervals, and very strong gusts are predicted in the east and the Teno massif in the afternoon.

In La Gomera, mostly clear weather is expected, with cloud cover in the low northern areas. The light calima will tend to subside. Minimum temperatures will experience a slight increase in the southern mid-altitudes, where maximums could exceed 30 °C. In San Sebastián, a minimum of 22 degrees and a maximum of 26 is forecast. The trade wind will be intense at times, with potential very strong gusts on the southeast and northwest slopes.

In La Palma, skies will generally be mostly clear, with some cloud cover in the north and east. Light calima will persist, although it is expected to diminish. Temperatures will remain relatively unchanged, except for increases in the west, particularly in minimums. Maximums could reach 30 °C. In Santa Cruz de La Palma, a minimum of 20 and a maximum of 24 is expected. The trade wind will blow forcefully in specific areas in the afternoon.

In El Hierro, the sky will be mostly clear with some cloud cover in the low northern areas. Calima will subside. A slight thermal increase is forecast for the southern slopes, with maximums potentially reaching or exceeding 30 °C in mid-altitude areas. In Valverde, temperatures will range between 16 and 19 degrees. The trade wind will blow strongly along the southeast coast and the extreme northwest.

In the province of Las Palmas, the weather will be stable. In Gran Canaria, clear skies are predicted, with cloud cover predominating in the low northern areas. The calima at altitude will tend to subside. Slight thermal increases are expected in the southern half, with a decrease in maximums in the mountains. There is a low probability that readings could reach up to 34 °C in the southern and western mid-altitudes. In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, temperatures will range between 21 and 24 degrees. The trade wind will present strong intervals and possible very strong gusts in the southeast and northwest slopes in the afternoon, with breezes in the southwest.

In Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, mostly clear skies will prevail, with morning intervals in the north. Light calima is also likely at altitude. Temperatures will see little change, with maximums of 25 °C in Arrecife and 26 °C in Puerto del Rosario. The trade wind will blow with strong intervals.
