He scaled a wall and entered the home of his ex-partner, who was on the second floor. There, he terrorised the woman, threatened to kill her, and raped her. This is the terrifying episode that a woman experienced in Tenerife after being assaulted in her home by someone who had once been her partner. Now, the alleged assailant is facing a sentence of 12 years in prison if found guilty in the trial that will be held next Wednesday at the Provincial Court of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The prosecution accuses him of a crime of breaking and entering and sexual assault with penetration. In addition, they seek to impose another ten years of supervised release once he has served his prison sentence, as well as a prohibition on approaching or communicating with the victim for 20 years. Likewise, the Public Prosecutor’s Office believes that the defendant will have to pay the victim 18,000 euros in compensation.
The prosecution maintains that the defendant scaled the perimeter wall of his ex-partner’s home. Once inside, he seized her mobile phone and removed the battery from his own. The woman tried to convince him to leave the house; however, the man threatened her: “If you’re not going to be with me, I’m going to kill you” or “you’re not leaving here, I’ll do whatever I want with you tonight and then I’ll kill you.”
She tried to escape
While threatening her, the assailant began to undress her despite the victim’s struggle to prevent it. Her efforts to avoid the assault were in vain and the man raped her. At one point, the woman tried to flee running towards the bedroom, taking advantage of the fact that her ex-partner had his trousers around his ankles. The idea was, as detailed by the Public Prosecutor in their charge sheet, for her not to be caught and to jump from the balcony to the street. But he caught her, grabbed her by the neck, and threw her onto the bed.
The horror was not over. The man assaulted her again and the victim lost consciousness. The next day, the accused sexually assaulted her once more, and this time, the woman did not resist due to the fear gripping her in case her ex-partner followed through with his death threats.
The man is already serving a ten-year prison sentence for crimes of sexual assault and unlawful detention, according to a ruling from the same Provincial Court.
