Canonical Coronation Programme of Our Lady of the Rosary
Canonical Coronation, the pilgrimage of the Virgin throughout the Municipality, and the centenary of the Parish of Our Lady of the Rosary, El Tablero, among the main events
On the occasion of the centenary of the Parish of Our Lady of the Rosary in El Tablero, the pilgrimage of the Sacred Image throughout the municipality of El Rosario and the anticipated Canonical Coronation of Our Lady of the Rosary, the programme of events to be held over the coming weeks has been presented. This calendar revolves around three main milestones: the Canonical Coronation, the pilgrimage of Our Lady of the Rosary through the Municipality, and the centenary of the Parish of El Tablero.
The presentation of the programme took place last Monday and was attended by the Mayor of El Rosario, Escolástico Gil, and the parish priest Aníbal Hernández. Also present were the Councillor for Festivities, Yeray Gutiérrez, Domitila Díaz, steward of the Virgin and chief sister of the Brotherhood of Our Lady of the Rosary, as well as Sotero Rodríguez, steward of the Machado hermitage.
During his speech, the Mayor expressed his gratitude to all the individuals and institutions involved in organising this historic event. He highlighted the significance of this liturgical recognition for the Patroness of the Municipality and the spiritual value that her journey represents through every corner of the region.
The events will commence on 20th July with a solemn Eucharistic celebration, presided over by the Bishop of the Nivariense Diocese, D. Eloy Alberto Santiago Santiago, to mark the parish centenary. From there, the image of Our Lady of the Rosary will begin an emotional journey through the different towns of the Municipality, marking an unprecedented spiritual and communal path.
The pilgrimage, which will extend over six consecutive Saturdays, will kick off on 23rd August from Machado to Barranco Hondo, giving way to a series of religious and cultural events organised by each hosting parish. From Barranco Hondo, on 30th August, the image will depart for the Parish of San Isidro in El Chorrillo, and on 6th September it will continue its journey to El Tablero, where it will remain until 13th September, after which it will head to the Parish of Santa Cruz in Llano del Moro.
On 20th September, the fifth Saturday of the pilgrimage, the Virgin will ascend to La Esperanza, to the Parish of Our Lady of La Esperanza, and from there will return to Machado on 27th September, thus completing her route through the region.
Missionary Rosary
This pilgrimage is inspired by the Missionary Rosary, a form of prayer where each mystery is offered for a continent. On this occasion, each town has been symbolised with a representative colour:
• Barranco Hondo: white – Europe
• El Chorrillo: yellow – Asia
• El Tablero: blue – Oceania
• Llano del Moro: red – America
• La Esperanza: green – Africa
• Machado: pink (intentions of the Pope) and gold (intentions of the Bishop and the Nivariense Diocese)
In each locality, the faithful will be able to collect a bracelet of the corresponding colour as a symbol of their participation and the missionary commitment of the Church.
The main day will be 4th October, when the Canonical Coronation of Our Lady of the Rosary will be celebrated in a liturgical act presided over once again by the Bishop, followed by a solemn procession of the Sacred Image.
