The signals given by the Traffic Civil Guard must be understood and respected by all drivers, as they take precedence over any other indication.
However, not all road users clearly understand what certain elements communicate, such as the colour flags carried by the officers.
At sporting events or special traffic situations, such as a race, officers may use flags of different colours to manage traffic. Each colour has a specific meaning.
For instance, when an officer displays a red flag —often from a motorcycle— they are indicating that the road is temporarily closed, allowing only escorted vehicles to pass.
If a green flag is raised instead, it signals that traffic has resumed. The yellow colour, on the other hand, warns of an imminent risk or the need for heightened caution.
