The Guardia Civil reported on Tuesday that seven individuals are being investigated for the theft of over 440 kilos of avocados from agricultural estates in Tenerife, with a market value of around €1,700.
The Benemérita states that specialised agents from the Guardia Civil, part of the Roca team, conducted investigations between April and July this year to look into these individuals, men aged between 21 and 37, residents of the municipalities of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, San Juan de la Rambla, and Icod de los Vinos.
These individuals are the alleged perpetrators of three crimes against property and the socioeconomic order that occurred in municipalities in the northern part of the island of Tenerife.
The thefts took place on estates in San Juan de la Rambla and Icod de los Vinos, where, after detecting the commission of a robbery by scaling a perimeter fence, it was confirmed that there were four individuals involved.
These individuals resided in the municipality of San Juan de la Rambla, where they also illegally occupied a property, the Guardia Civil explained.
The agents located three of them in San Juan de la Rambla and another in San Cristóbal de la Laguna, and they were reported for stealing 140 kilos of avocados.
The agents also focused on an investigation in Icod de los Vinos, where there was a continuous theft on an estate, from which approximately 300 kilos of the reed variety of avocados were stolen.
The investigations were directed towards habitual offenders in the area, and it was discovered that one of the perpetrators collected the avocados using his own high-capacity vehicle, while two others set out to commit the theft of the avocados and accessed the estate via a little-used and secluded path.
According to the Guardia Civil, once they had gathered the product, they would retrace their steps along the path, using large and sturdy bags, to load it into the vehicle and flee the scene.
