Neither the dunes of Maspalomas nor the wild solitude of Cofete have been chosen this year. The magazine Viajar, one of the most widely read tourism publications in Spain, has included in its new selection of the best beaches and natural pools of 2025, two urban beaches in the Canary Islands that, due to their uniqueness, beauty, and atmosphere, have managed to win over the editorial team: Las Canteras in Gran Canaria, and Las Teresitas in Tenerife.
Both have been highlighted in a list that covers the most refreshing spots in Spain, from the rocky coves of Menorca to the waterfalls of the northern peninsula, passing through the natural spaces of the interior.
And in the case of the Archipelago, the choice has been clear: The Canary Islands not only boast sun and sea, but also beaches where life unfolds just steps from the city.
Las Teresitas: the symbol of Santa Cruz de Tenerife
Further west, very close to the centre of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, is the beach of Las Teresitas, another area selected by the magazine. Although it is not precisely a secluded or solitary spot, its popularity does not detract from its charm. In fact, Viajar describes it as one of the most beautiful on the Island… and in the country.

Its calm and crystal-clear waters, the light sand brought from the desert, the services for bathers — such as beach bars, lifeguards, and large parking areas — and its proximity to the Tenerifean capital make it an ideal spot for those seeking a day at the beach without venturing too far from the city. It is indeed a busy place, but also accessible, family-friendly, and full of life.
Las Canteras: an urban jewel overlooking the ocean
Located in the heart of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the beach of Las Canteras has been recognised by Viajar as one of the best urban beaches in the world. The reason is not only its extensive kilometre-and-a-half of golden sand or the natural reef that protects its waters but the cosmopolitan atmosphere that is felt all year round.

There, surfers who take advantage of the best waves in the city coexist, European retirees stroll along the promenade in the winter sun, and local families enjoy the surroundings any day of the week. In addition to its opportunities for diving and snorkelling, the gastronomic offer by the sea and the sunsets are part of the charm of this beach that never sleeps.
