The General Body of the Canary Police, through the Environmental Protection and Cultural Heritage Group (GRUMA) of the Administrative Inspection and Surveillance Unit (UVIA), in coordination with personnel from the Immediate Emergency Response Team (ERIE) of the Red Cross, personnel from the Fire Station of La Orotava, and personnel from Gesplan have rescued an injured tourist on the PNT 03 trail, Circular Roques de García, in the Teide National Park, in Tenerife.
The operation began when a certified tour guide alerted the Autonomous Police agents, who were carrying out surveillance duties, that one of the group’s hikers, around 70 years old and Icelandic, had been missing for an hour while the rest of the group waited inside the coach.
At that moment, a search operation was established in the Roques de García, National Parador and adjacent roads, tracks, and trails of the National Park, and the incident was reported to 1-1-2 CECOES Canary Islands to activate medical resources.
While travelling one of the trails, two tourists alerted the agents that a man matching the description was found injured, lying on the ground with head and body injuries, without appropriate clothing or footwear, and lacking water or food. They assisted him with water to reduce dehydration and provided sun protection.
The Security and Emergency resources located the injured man, who was somewhat disoriented, and after providing the necessary first aid, he was transported through the Llano de Ucanca to the ambulance where his guide awaited, where he was further assisted and treated for his injuries.
