The bonfires of San Juan in Puerto de la Cruz, one of the most magical nights of the year, this Monday 23rd June, have generated a genuine surge of travel from various points on the island, especially from the metropolitan area.
The celebration, which draws more attendees each year due to its nighttime atmosphere by the sea, has led to scenes of overcrowding at the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Interchange, where hundreds of people queue endlessly trying to board a bus heading north of the Island.
From early afternoon, users shared images of the long waits on the platforms on social media, with routes like the 103 and 343 completely overwhelmed. “I don’t know if I’ll get on the bus, I’ve been waiting for almost an hour,” commented one traveller while waiting in line.
Despite the planned reinforcement by Titsa to accommodate the travel demand during the festivity, the volume of users has far exceeded expectations. The queues stretched along the Interchange.
Puerto de la Cruz, which expects to gather thousands of people during the night of San Juan, will experience one of the most significant mass events of the summer. The celebration includes fireworks, musical performances, and ritual baths on the coast.
