The Tenerife Council to Build a New Car Park in Masca “to Allow Tourist Coaches to Turn”

The governing council of Tenerife’s Cabildo approved on Wednesday the report that will allow progress in occupying the land needed to set up a car park in Cruz de Hilda, in Masca. This is a 3,000 square metre area intended to solve part of the mobility problems in the area, according to the Corporation. Despite its small size, the hamlet of Masca is one of the most visited spots by tourists on the island, causing inconvenience to the local residents who have directly complained to the Cabildo. So far, no limits have been set on the number of visitors that can access this area, apart from regulating access to the barranco of the same name and charging for it.

At a press conference, President Rosa Dávila specified that one of the clear issues in the area is the inability for tourist buses to turn safely at the aforementioned viewpoint. Therefore, she said, this car park will be enabled while respecting the terrain’s orography and the protection of the environment. She did not mention any measures to limit visitor numbers or possible restrictions on the number of vehicles accessing the area.

The Cabildo of Tenerife estimates that this action will ensure the safe turning of buses, avoid risk situations, and reduce pressure on the road. The area to be occupied can accommodate eight tourist buses and ten cars.

The island corporation indicates that this car park is planned in the Teno Rural Park’s own Master Plan, which also includes the provision of services such as information points or small controlled parking areas, all aimed at improving the tourist experience.
