Where can I donate blood this week in the Canary Islands?

The General Directorate of Blood Donation and Haematology of the Canary Islands Health Service is bringing blood donation closer to the employees of various Canary Island companies through its Corporate Social Responsibility area. This collaboration began in 2005 with the aim of strengthening ties with the business community and increasing blood and blood product donations.

This Tuesday, 10th June, a team will visit the public company for Territorial and Environmental Management and Planning (Gesplan) at Avenida Tres de Mayo, number 7, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, to serve staff from 9:00 to 13:45.

Additionally, on Gran Canaria, a donation team will visit MAPFRE on Poeta Agustín Millares Sall street, number 3, from 9:15 to 14:00.

On Thursday, 12th June, a mobile unit will head to the Cencosu Spar facilities at Josefina Mayor street, number 3, in Telde, from 9:00 to 13:45.

On the same day, another team will travel to the headquarters of the General Corps of the Canary Islands Police at Avenida Principal Añaza, s/n, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, from 9:00 to 13:45.

Where to Donate on Gran Canaria:

Blood donation can be made at the provincial headquarters located at Alfonso XIII street, number 4, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The hours on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday are 8:15 to 20:00, while Thursday and Friday are 9:15 to 20:00.

In Santa Lucía de Tirajana, the fixed point is at the annex to the Vecindario Health Centre, with hours from Monday to Wednesday, 10:15 to 13:15 and 16:15 to 20:15; Thursday and Friday, 10:15 to 13:15 (except holidays).

Blood donations can also be made at other points in the Canary Islands Transfusion Network without an appointment, such as the University Maternal-Child Hospital of the Canary Islands, from Monday to Friday, 10:30 to 13:30; the University Hospital of Gran Canaria Doctor Negrín, Monday to Friday, 8:30 to 19:30; and the University Insular Hospital of Gran Canaria, where donations can be made from Monday to Friday, 10:00 to 19:30, excluding holidays. All these centres have parking for donors.

Lastly, at Roca San Agustín Hospital, donations can be made without a telephone appointment by calling 928 730 362 (option 3), Monday to Wednesday, 8:00 to 14:00, except holidays.

Where to Donate in Tenerife:

The permanent blood donation point in Santa Cruz de Tenerife is located at Méndez Núñez, 14, where donations can be made Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 21:00.

The fixed point at the San Isidro Health Centre, in Granadilla de Abona, is also active, with donations possible Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 13:30 and 15:00 to 19:30. This point has reserved parking for donors, and telephone assistance is through 677 980 518, except holidays.

Regarding permanent points in the Canary Islands Transfusion Network, donations can be made without an appointment at the Canary Islands University Hospital on the 0th floor, next to the lifts, from Sunday to Friday and holidays, 8:30 to 21:30 and Saturdays, 8:30 to 14:30 and 15:30 to 20:00. The contact phone is 922 678 670.

At the University Hospital Nuestra Señora de Candelaria, healthcare professionals are available from 8:00 to 20:00 and Saturdays from 9:00 to 13:00, except holidays. No appointment is necessary, and the phone number is 922 602 060.

Donations are also possible at Hospiten Bellevue on Alemania street, 6, Puerto de la Cruz, by appointment at 922 385 235 (option 1), Monday to Friday, 11:00 to 13:30 and 15:00 to 17:30, except holidays.

At San Juan de Dios Hospital, located on the Santa Cruz La Laguna road, 53, appointments can be made to donate on 922 645 511 extension 463, from Monday to Friday, 10:30 to 12:30, except holidays.

Requirements to Donate:

To be a donor, some basic requirements must be met. One must be between eighteen and 65 years old (up to seventy if it’s their first donation), weigh more than fifty kilos, be in good general health, and not be pregnant. For any doubts, the General Directorate of Blood Donation and Haematology offers a free donor support phone line at 900 234 061.
