Local police in Arona intervened with an individual who had recently behaved very violently. Video clips recorded by onlookers show a man of sub-Saharan origin assaulting a woman, knocking her to the ground, receiving a beating from several locals, and then retaliating by damaging a car belonging to one of his alleged attackers the following day.

The incidents took place on a street in the Guargacho neighbourhood between Sunday night and Monday, according to sources consulted. It is believed the man suffers from mental health issues and was highly agitated on Sunday evening.

At one point, he delivered a powerful blow to a woman’s face, causing her to fall directly onto the road, as seen in one of the videos. This violent behaviour prompted other residents in the area to react. Initially, one local struck him several times. Afterwards, when the African man was already on the ground, several others joined in, kicking and punching him.

The next day, the same sub-Saharan individual, who lives on that street, used a dumbbell to attempt breaking the windows of a parked Volkswagen Golf Mk IV.

The police were called to the flat where he resides. A patrol from the Local Police of Arona arrived, as shown in another of the videos circulating. The individual was defiant towards the officers, even challenging them to enter his home without a judge’s order if they dared.

Eventually, the local police managed to subdue him and place him in handcuffs. Due to his mental health condition, he was first taken to the emergency department of the Hospital del Sur in El Mojón, accompanied by a police officer in the ambulance.

However, given his disturbed state, he was later transferred to the Psychiatric Unit of the Nuestra Señora de La Candelaria University Hospital (Hunsc).
