Thousands Attend Armed Forces Day Events in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
Thousands gathered this Friday to participate in the Armed Forces Day events in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, presided over by King Felipe VI. The Maritime Avenue and the vantage points on the cliffs were chosen by locals to watch the air and naval review in the city’s bay, near the Santa Ana Cathedral.
A total of 23 aircraft and 14 ships paraded before the eyes of the masses, who were thrilled by the debut appearance in the Canaries of the submarine S-81 ‘Isaac Peral’, the first submersible designed and completely built in Spain.
The Armed Forces Day activities then moved to Las Alcaravaneras beach, where an exhibition with aerial, amphibious, and terrestrial demonstrations was held by the Armed Forces and the Civil Guard.
The event was attended by the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council, led by Mayor Carolina Darias, alongside officials from various public institutions.
The City Council collaborated with the Defence Staff to organise the events, involving personnel from the Presidency, City of the Sea, Roads and Works, Sports, Security, Lighting, and Culture departments, among others.
