Lope Afonso Unanimously Elected President of Tenerife’s Popular Party

Lope Afonso was unanimously elected as the president of the PP of Tenerife this Saturday, taking over from Emilio Navarro during the tenth insular congress of the party.

Afonso, who is the vice president of Tenerife, spoke before the vote. He emphasised the growth of his party, describing it as the one that represents “freedom”, “reforms”, and “civil society”, adding that it’s also the strongest defender of Spain.

Before Afonso’s speech, the compromisarios unanimously approved a proposal titled “We activate Tenerife”, which raises issues such as implementing a charge in protected natural spaces and rejecting the establishment of a tax on overnight stays.

Afonso praised this proposal as crucial for the island’s economic development. He highlighted its importance for tourism, intelligent taxation, employment, and overall progress.

In terms of leadership, Afonso will be joined by David Crego as secretary general, who is currently the general director of centres, schooling, and complementary services at the Ministry of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands. Additionally, Carmen Luisa Castro, who is the spokesperson for the popular group in the City of Güímar, will serve as the insular coordinator.
