A four-year-old boy tragically passed away on Thursday after being pulled from a hotel pool in San Miguel de Abona, Tenerife, in a state of cardiorespiratory arrest, according to reports from the 1-1-2 Canary Islands service.
The incident occurred around 5:00 p.m. when the Emergency and Security Coordinating Centre (CECOES) 1-1-2 received an alert stating that a child had been rescued from the pool by a lifeguard and was in severe distress.
A coordinating nurse from the SUC, who was monitoring the situation, quickly realised that the child was in cardiorespiratory arrest and gave instructions, via telecare, to locate a defibrillator nearby and start resuscitation efforts. Lifeguards and several individuals who identified themselves as doctors also assisted in this critical response.
SUC personnel, who arrived on the scene with two advanced life support ambulances and a medical helicopter, continued with advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation manoeuvres, but sadly, these efforts were unsuccessful and the child was confirmed dead.
The Local Police worked alongside the emergency teams, while the Civil Guard took charge of the subsequent proceedings.
