Three containers were set alight on Thursday night outside the Tejina Health Centre in San Cristóbal de la Laguna, marking yet another incident of vandalism that raises the total number of affected units to 45 within the locality since 2023.

The Laguito City Council has condemned this latest occurrence, which adds to a lengthy list of similar incidents that has already incurred a cost of 47,845 euros for public finances, not including additional damages or threats to the safety of individuals and local properties.

Badel Albelo, the Councillor for Citizen Security, referred to the events in Tejina as “extremely serious” and assured that the Local Police are amplifying their investigative efforts to locate those accountable and bring them before the judicial system.

“This is not merely a criminal act; it is a direct assault on the well-being of individuals and material possessions such as vehicles and infrastructure. Such behaviour jeopardises community harmony, and those responsible must understand the legal ramifications they face,” he stated. He emphasized that the local administration will uphold a policy of “zero tolerance” towards these actions and will pursue accountability to avoid impunity.

Fran Hernández, the Councillor for Municipal Services, expressed regret over the financial consequences these actions impose on the City Council, as funds that should have been allocated to enhance cleaning services are consequently redirected. “So far in 2025, four containers have been destroyed, resulting in costs exceeding 4,900 euros. Since 2023, the financial implications total 47,845 euros. That’s money we could invest in expanding the waste collection system or upgrading equipment, but instead, we must use it to replace what others have vandalised,” he explained.

The Council has urged residents to assist in the investigation. Anyone who has witnessed the incidents or possesses pertinent information is encouraged to contact the local police through official channels, to aid in identifying the perpetrators and to curb this type of behaviour.
