The El Rosario City Council, located in Tenerife, has recently tasked the firm Orion Analista SL, which specialises in calligraphic analysis, with a project aimed at identifying the authors of graffiti and vandalism on public furniture and spaces throughout the municipality.
The Council clarified in a statement that this company will be responsible for creating reports that detail the locations of graffiti, as well as tracking its origins for the cleaning of urban furniture, façades, or other public areas.
The initiative to prevent graffiti in public spaces will consist of a database and several phases aimed at prevention, identification, and prosecution of the offenders, ultimately leading to the preparation of expert and judicial reports.
The selected firm will gather all reports on various graffiti from historical police records and will compare these with current instances in El Rosario, where the authors remain unidentified.
Additionally, an identification and calligraphic report of all documented graffiti will be produced to enable sanctions against those who deface public furniture or areas.
To achieve this, the City Council will work alongside the Local Police for a “swifter and more accurate” identification of the culprits, the establishment of a robust database, and raising awareness among young people through educational sessions at local schools.
“This holistic approach will enhance public safety and community harmony,” states the City Council in their statement.
In conclusion, the City Council notes that a series of discussions will be held in schools to inform students about methods for detecting and holding graffiti artists accountable, while also conveying the “serious legal consequences” involved and exploring potential alternatives to “illegal and vandalic graffiti, thus promoting a genuine aesthetic appreciation of urban art,” according to the City Council.
