Manuel González Arteaga has triumphed in the XIII National Photography Contest Tenerife Fashion following the jury’s decision announced this Thursday. The second and third prizes were awarded to Fabio di Pietro and Nuria Barragán Hernández, respectively. This edition saw the participation of 121 pieces from 22 photographers, with the central theme being fashion and craftsmanship.
Manuel González Arteaga titled his entry To Pinolere, while Fabio Di Pietro showcased Origin, and Nuria Barragán Hernández presented Empty.
The Minister of Employment and Education, Efraín Medina, emphasised the high calibre of the works and noted that “the aim is to foster and establish links between the fashion and photography sectors, areas that drive economic growth and job creation.” He added, “We are pleased to restore the national significance of this contest,” which features three awards. The winning photograph will receive a prize of €3,500 and a trophy, while the second and third places will be awarded €2,500 and €1,500, respectively, along with trophies.
The Winner
Manuel Jesús González Arteaga operates under the brand Watch, based on the General Tacoronte-Tejina road, according to the information on the Tenerife Fashion website. He pursued a Middle Cycle at Mohai, a Visual Arts School in Italy, followed by a Higher Cycle in Photography at EFTI (International Photography and Cinema Centre) in Madrid. His expertise includes a master’s in study and editorial photography under Xuan Gutiérrez, also in the capital.
His professional background includes roles as a photographer for the Prisa Group, the newspaper El País, and DT Magazine. He has also served as an assistant at the Lourdes Balduque studio for Universal. Other roles he has undertaken include Freelance and CEO at a creative studio. He has published two photographic books: Lanzarote, 25 Years as a Biosphere Reserve and La Gomera, Colour and Magic.
His work features a cover with the award-winning actor Luis Tosar for DT Magazine, as well as reports in Vogue Korea featuring model Elena Urukatu; in Vogue Projects with Finkst; and for Artels with Maria Qui.
