Two Adeje Beaches Reopen After Fecal Bacteria Closure Impacting Bathing Areas

The Adeje City Council, located in Tenerife, has reopened the bathing areas of Troy I and II beaches, which had been closed due to elevated levels of faecal bacteria, enterococci, and E. coli.

The same resolution was applied last week to the bathing areas of Troy I and El Puertito beaches.

The Adeje City Council has announced that recent analyses indicate water quality “is optimal for bathing” at these two beaches.

“Competent” technicians have evaluated all municipal facilities that could have an impact, ruling out any infrastructure failures attributable to the local authority, adds the Cabildo.

The Insular Water Council also reports that no discharges or failures in facilities under its jurisdiction have been identified that could be responsible for this alteration.

The Adeje City Council notes that this trend has occurred repeatedly in recent years, therefore “some reports suggest that it may also be the tides that introduce this contamination to Troy beaches from various points along the coast or from the sea itself.”

In light of this situation, the Adeje City Council is considering, alongside municipal technical managers, the necessity of requesting an external report and investigation to help identify the causes of this pollution or even discern its origin.
